Manchester United Beat Newcastle In Race For Sesko’s Signature

Manchester United are reportedly closer to signing Benjamin Šeško, with Fabrizio Romano confirming an agreement is near completion.

The transfer saga surrounding RB Leipzig (17.17) star striker Benjamin Šeško is reaching a conclusion, with Manchester United emerging as the frontrunners.

Following a period of intense speculation, Fabrizio Romano confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that Manchester United are now closer to signing Šeško than Newcastle United, signalling a significant step toward finalising the move.

With Šeško’s impressive performances and high potential, United aim to bolster their attacking options, while other clubs, notably Newcastle (39.07), have been in hot pursuit.

Fabrizio Romano’s Latest Update

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has given Manchester United fans a glimpse of optimism after posting an update on X, revealing that the club is close to securing Šeško’s signature. Romano stated, “Benjamin Šeško has reached total agreement with Manchester United on personal terms.”

“Contract until June 2030. Šeško wants to join United, a clear feeling revealed yesterday. [He] never gave similar indications to other clubs. Club-to-club talks with RB Leipzig continue.”

And in his latest update on this transfer saga, Fabrizio said: “Manchester United and RB Leipzig, in direct talks again to adjust fee package and add-ons, trying to get it done ASAP.

“[This] follows Šeško’s decision to join Manchester United as revealed last night, with personal terms agreed. Šeško will train separately until the deal is done.”

Romano’s updates have fueled speculation that the 20-year-old Slovenian forward is intent on joining United, despite Newcastle’s interest. The deal seems to be progressing well, and all parties are working to finalise the move ahead of the new season.

How And Why Manchester United’s Pursuit of Šeško Started

Manchester United have been in talks with RB Leipzig for weeks regarding Šeško, who has caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs following his breakout season. The towering forward has scored consistently in Austria and Germany and has impressed scouts with his dynamic style of play, combining physicality with technical finesse.

His 2022-2023 campaign included standout performances in the Bundesliga and UEFA Europa League, putting Šeško on the map.

United’s interest grew stronger when their search for a long-term striker intensified. The club has been struggling for consistent attacking depth, and Šeško’s potential as a future star aligns with Ruben Amorim’s vision. The Portuguese manager is looking to build a team capable of competing at the highest level, and signing Šeško would be a key piece in that puzzle.

As United (29.52) faced stiff competition from Premier League rivals, including Newcastle, the club’s decision to press ahead with the transfer had become a matter of urgency. Romano’s recent update suggests that the club is now ahead in negotiations, with Šeško reportedly keen on joining the Old Trafford ranks.

While United remain the leading contender for Šeško’s signature, details of the deal are still being finalised. Reports suggest that United and RB Leipzig are closing in on an agreement that could see Šeško join the Premier League giants for a reported fee of around £50 million, though add-ons may push the final number higher.

What This Means For Manchester United’s Future

By landing talent of Šeško’s ilk, the club would be adding a player with enormous potential, capable of developing into one of Europe’s top strikers. His arrival would likely provide competition for the team’s current centre forwards, enhancing the depth of the squad and giving Amorim more options in the attacking third.

The signing also signals a long-term investment. Šeško, just 22 years old, represents the type of player United have been targeting as part of their rebuild. This move aligns with the club’s broader strategy of integrating young, talented players who can grow with the team and help build sustained success.

Moreover, securing Šeško would provide a massive boost to Manchester United’s summer transfer window, as they would have successfully completed a major signing despite facing competition from Newcastle, a club with Champions League status.

As things stand, the Šeško-to-United deal looks poised to reach its conclusion soon. Romano has confirmed that the deal is complete, and fans can expect a big announcement in the coming days. United’s (29.52) aggressive approach in securing the sought-after Slovenian marks a crucial step in their quest to regain Premier League glory and improve their forward line for the 2025/26 season.
