Bulls Set for URC Final with Leinster After Semi-Final Thrillers

The Bulls and Leinster secured their URC Grand Final spots with contrasting wins in two intense, high-stakes semi-final encounters.

URC Grand Final Set: Bulls vs Leinster

The stage is officially set for the 2025 United Rugby Championship (URC) Grand Final. The Bulls (5.00) will travel to Dublin to take on Leinster (1.18) at Croke Park next Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00 (SA time). This marks the Bulls’ third appearance in the final in four seasons, while Leinster return for the first time since the 2020/21 campaign.

Both teams advanced after hard-fought semi-final victories on Saturday in front of passionate home crowds in Pretoria and Dublin.

Bulls Hold Firm in Yellow-Card Chaos

In contrast to Leinster’s control, the Bulls had to dig deep in a chaotic South African derby to edge the Sharks 25–13 at a packed Loftus Versfeld.

The match was packed with drama, particularly in the first half, when the Bulls received three yellow cards, playing with as few as 13 men at times. Despite this, they showed remarkable defensive composure and capitalised on their attacking opportunities. Wingers Sebastian de Klerk and Canan Moodie both crossed the line in the opening stages to give the Bulls an early 12–0 lead.

The Sharks struggled to convert their dominance in possession into points, missing four of five shots at goal and failing to capitalise fully on their numerical advantage. They did manage two tries in the second half through Springbok star Makazole Mapimpi and Ethan Hooker, but both went unconverted.

Keagan Johannes added a crucial penalty for the Bulls, and David Kriel’s try late in the match sealed the win, ending the Sharks’ late surge. The Pretoria outfit showed composure under pressure and used their chances far more effectively — a key factor in the final outcome.

Leinster Overcome Past Playoff Woes

Leinster put their recent semi-final struggles to bed with a commanding 37–19 win over defending champions Glasgow Warriors at the Aviva Stadium. The Irish giants outscored the visitors six tries to three in a dominant all-round display.

After years of near misses, Leinster finally broke through with clinical finishing, structured defence, and creative backline play. They stormed into the lead early and maintained control, never allowing Glasgow to get within striking distance.

The victory marks a return to form for the four-time former champions, who will now look to reclaim the title on home soil in a historic decider at Croke Park.

The Final Showdown at Croke Park

Next weekend’s final at Croke Park promises to be a heavyweight clash between the competition’s top two seeds. Leinster will enjoy home advantage at one of Ireland’s most iconic stadiums, while the Bulls arrive battle-hardened and desperate to end their URC silverware drought.

Both teams bring contrasting styles: Leinster with their structured, high-tempo rugby, and the Bulls with physical dominance and counter-attacking flair. It will also be a test of depth and discipline — areas both teams have been working on throughout the season.

The countdown to the final is on, and rugby fans can expect a grand occasion worthy of the URC’s showpiece event.
