Why Liverpool Wouldn’t Be A Good Fit For Elon Musk

Errol Musk, Elon Musk’s father, made a surprising claim. He suggested that his son might buy Liverpool FC.

Elon Musk once joked about buying Manchester United (1394.83) in 2022 which made headlines but he ultimately said it was not serious. However, a move to Liverpool (1.25) seems even less likely for several reasons.

Sky Sports has reported that there is no indication that principal Liverpool owner John W. Henry is looking to sell the club. Still, though, everything has its price.

Musk does not appear to be the right fit for Liverpool. Moreover, the Reds, who are the current Premier League title favourites on Easybet, are not the best fit for him either.

Manchester United vs. Liverpool: Fan Expectations

Manchester United fans are unhappy with their current owners. The Glazer family has faced protests for years. Elon Musk would have an easier time winning them over.

United’s struggles on the pitch over the last decade have also lowered expectations. The club has not won the Premier League since 2013. This makes it easier for a new owner to impress the fanbase.

Liverpool, by contrast, has been a model of success under Fenway Sports Group (FSG). Under Arne Slot, they are currently top of the Premier League in the 2024/25 season. Fans expect their team to challenge for titles every season.

FSG’s Legacy at Liverpool

FSG has turned Liverpool into a global force. This is made possible by their approach that relies on careful planning, data analysis, and sustainable spending. Furthermore, this long-term strategy has made them one of the best-run clubs in soccer.

A new owner like Musk would face high expectations, but the Liverpool fans demand continuity and success. If Musk’s ownership style clashes with FSG’s legacy, fans could quickly turn against him.

At Manchester United, the bar for success is lower right now. Fans would welcome change after years of stagnation. At Liverpool, Musk would inherit a well-oiled machine, making it harder to stand out.

Elon Musk’s Approach to Ownership

Elon Musk is known for bold ideas and risks. This may have earned him profits at Tesla and SpaceX. However, soccer ownership requires stability and strategic thinking.

Liverpool’s success has been built on patience. Musk’s hands-on, unpredictable style might not suit the club’s culture. Fans could see him as a distraction rather than a visionary.

At Manchester United, Musk could play the role of saviour. He could promise a fresh start and quickly gain support. At Liverpool, he would face higher scrutiny and less room for error.

The Importance of Public Image

Elon Musk’s public image could also pose challenges. While he is popular in tech circles, his comments often spark controversy. Soccer fans are deeply passionate and quick to criticise.

Liverpool has a global reputation to protect. Their owners are expected to reflect the club’s values. Musk’s unpredictable statements might not align with this image.

Manchester United, on the other hand, is already dealing with image issues under the Glazers. A controversial figure like Musk might not worsen their situation. At Liverpool, however, any misstep could cause a major backlash.

Elon Musk buying Liverpool seems unlikely and unwise. The club’s success under FSG sets a high standard. Meeting those expectations would be a challenge for someone like Musk.

Manchester United would be a better fit for Musk. Their fans crave change and would welcome a fresh approach. At Liverpool, Musk would struggle to follow FSG’s legacy of careful planning and consistent success, especially with Arne Slot leading the team to Premier League dominance in 2024/25.
