Wales will host Australia at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Sunday. The Southern Hemisphere is riding high after a strong start to their tour and the Wallabies are likely to continue the trend.
Wales (2.75) are underdogs for this fixture even though they are on home soil. Australia (1.48) had a tough Rugby Championship campaign, but are riding high after their upset win over England.
The Wallabies are offering odds of 1.83 to cover the -4.5 handicap for the third time in a row against Wales.
This is worth considering for rugby enthusiasts interested in online sports betting. Whatever problems Australia have, Wales has too.
Wales’ Nightmare 2024 – From Bad to Worse
The Wallabies were dismal in the Rugby Championship, winning one of only six games and finishing bottom of the table. However, Wales lost all five of their Six Nations games – even falling to Scotland (34.02) and minnows Italy (151.10).
Wales was walloped 41-13 by South Africa (4.00) in the first match of their mid-year overseas tour. Then, they lost twice in a row to the Wallabies, going down 25-16 in Sydney and 36-28 in Melbourne.
Subsequently, they lost 24-19 to Fiji (34.02) in Cardiff over the weekend to extend their losing streak to 10 matches in a row including last year’s Rugby World Cup quarter-final loss to Argentina.
The Wallabies: A Glimmer of Hope
Max Jorgensen’s late try handed Australia a shock 42-37 win over England (9.00) at Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium.
This was a notable win for several reasons: Australia showed the grit that had been lacking in tough situations during the Rugby Championship. Furthermore, a young winger-cum-fullback scoring the winning try showed that there is still talent coming through the system in Australia.
The Wallabies have been hampered by the popularity of competing sports like Aussie rules football. Since Israel Folau’s falling out with Rugby Australia over his controversial social media posts stating anti-LGBTQI+ views, the Wallabies have been looking for a star to take over the role of the team he once held.
Make no mistake, however – this was a team win. The Wallabies are far from the finished article under Joe Schmidt, but they are better than the team he inherited – and better than their opponents on Sunday.
