Reports: Lucas Vazquez to Leave Real Madrid After 18 Years

Lucas Vazquez will reportedly depart Real Madrid after the FIFA Club World Cup. The veteran right-back has not been offered a renewal by the Spanish giants.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the decision on X, reportedly taken as part of a wider squad reshuffle. Real Madrid (4.59) are looking to the future and have already lined up a replacement.

Real Madrid Eye Trent Alexander-Arnold for the Right-Back Role

Los Blancos have secured an agreement with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. The England international is expected to join on a free transfer once his current contract ends. However, no formal bid has yet been made to Liverpool.

Madrid are hopeful of having Alexander-Arnold in place before the FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament has expanded, and Real Madrid wants a strong squad. If they fail to land the Englishman early, Vazquez could reportedly sign a short-term deal to compete, with his contract set to expire on 30 June.

This transitional period is key for Real Madrid. Club officials are eager to maintain experience in the squad. At the same time, they want to refresh key positions.

Vazquez Bids Farewell After Trophy-Laden Career

Lucas Vazquez leaves behind a remarkable legacy. He has spent almost two decades with Los Blancos, coming through the youth system. Despite a reduced role in recent seasons, he has remained a valued squad member.

Vazquez has lifted five UEFA Champions League titles and multiple La Liga trophies. His versatility allowed him to fill in across the midfield and defence. However, at 33, his performances have dipped, especially during Dani Carvajal’s absence.

This season has seen him struggle to maintain consistency. Injuries and age have taken their toll. Yet, his departure marks the end of an era at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Saudi Arabia Could Be Next for Vazquez

Reports suggest that Saudi Arabia could be the next destination for Vazquez. The Middle Eastern league continues to attract veteran European stars. His experience and profile would make him a valuable asset.

Vazquez may follow in the footsteps of other LaLiga exports. The financial lure and less intense competition appeal to ageing players. Online sports betting markets may be affected by the club he joins next.

Although Vazquez has not confirmed his next step, a move abroad seems likely. The player is still evaluating offers. He will decide based on playing time and long-term goals.

Xabi Alonso Begins Squad Rebuild at Madrid

Incoming head coach Xabi Alonso is expected to make several changes. The former Real Madrid midfielder has impressed at Bayer Leverkusen. Now, he is tasked with continuing the club’s domestic and European dominance.

One of his first moves is to reinforce both full-back positions. With Alexander-Arnold and Carvajal set to cover the right side, focus shifts to the left. Alonso is reportedly unhappy with Ferland Mendy’s form.

Mendy has been inconsistent throughout the season. Meanwhile, Fran Garcia has yet to prove himself at the highest level. As a result, Real Madrid is reportedly searching for alternatives.

Left-Back Options: Grimaldo and Others on Madrid’s Radar

Alonso is reportedly keen on reuniting with Alejandro Grimaldo. The Spanish left-back played a key role under Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen (6.97). His technical ability and attacking contributions would suit Madrid’s style.

However, signing Grimaldo will not be straightforward. Bayer Leverkusen may demand a high transfer fee. Madrid must act quickly to fend off interest from other clubs.

Other names on the shortlist include Alvaro Carreras from Benfica, Theo Hernandez from AC Milan, and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. Each of these players brings a different profile. Madrid is carefully considering their options for the 2025 season.

Modric’s Future Remains Uncertain

Another long-serving star whose future is in doubt is Luka Modric. The Croatian midfielder’s contract also expires at the end of the season. At 39, retirement or a final move abroad could be on the cards.

Modric continues to play a part in the Madrid midfield. However, his role has become more limited. The club may decide to let him go to make room for younger talents.

No official decision has been announced. Discussions between Modric and the club are ongoing. Fans will be hoping for a fitting farewell to one of Real Madrid’s modern greats.
