Manchester United Close In On Lammens Signing

Manchester United are nearing a deal for Senne Lammens, with the Belgian goalkeeper poised to strengthen their depth and future.

Manchester United have accelerated talks to sign Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, as the Premier League giants look to reinforce between the posts.

With first-choice keeper André Onana set to miss several matches due to the Africa Cup of Nations, and current backup Altay Bayindir underperforming, United see Lammens as both a short-term solution and long-term investment.

Manchester United In Advanced Talks With Belgian Shot-Stopper

Manchester United are in advanced negotiations with Royal Antwerp (9.00) over the transfer of highly rated goalkeeper Lammens. The deal is expected to be worth around £17.3 million, according to multiple sources close to the club. United’s recruitment team identified Lammens as a priority target ahead of the looming January absence of André Onana.

Onana will represent Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations, leaving United thin in the goalkeeping department. Back-up goalkeeper Bayindir has failed to convince staff he can step up as a reliable deputy in Onana’s absence. United manager Ruben Amorim requested reinforcements after Bayindir’s error cost the team three points in the opener against Arsenal.

Lammens Miss Antwerp Duty

Lammens was left out of Royal Antwerp’s most recent match-day squad, signalling an imminent transfer away from the club. Belgian media reported that the 23-year-old is undergoing final preparations before completing a move to Old Trafford. He has made over 60 senior appearances for Antwerp and earned call-ups to Belgium’s senior national squad. His omission from Antwerp’s lineup reinforces speculation that terms are close between the two clubs.

Keeper Seen As Long-Term Investment

Manchester United (40.39) view Lammens not only as a short-term fix but also as a long-term solution in goal. Coaching staff believe he possesses the physicality, shot-stopping, and temperament to succeed at the Premier League level. At 6’5”, Lammens commands his area well and has drawn comparisons to Thibaut Courtois in his early development. Though his passing range needs improvement, his reflexes and aerial presence have impressed United’s goalkeeping analysts. According to Goal.com, Lammens has agreed personal terms and is keen to compete at one of Europe’s top clubs.

How Potential Transfer Could Shape Keeper Pecking Order

If completed, Lammens’ arrival could push Bayindir further down the pecking order at Old Trafford. United may also consider loaning out one of their current goalkeepers to balance the squad after Lammens signs. Lammens is not expected to displace Onana immediately but will challenge for starts during the international period. The move signals United’s commitment to strategic squad building ahead of a long and competitive season.

Negotiations are in the final stages, with a deal expected to be completed before the end of the transfer window. Medical checks and final paperwork are all that remain before Lammens is unveiled as a Manchester United player.
