Liverpool sign France winger Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal potentially worth £123 million.
Liverpool (1.48) have completed the signing of French forward Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain (1.35). The deal is worth an initial £106 million, potentially rising to £123 million with add-ons.
A Long-Awaited Move Finally Confirmed
Barcola has signed a five-year contract and will wear the number 29 shirt at Anfield. PSG initially valued the 23-year-old considerably higher, before the two clubs settled on final terms.
“It took a long time, but I’m really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool,” Barcola said.
He described winning the Premier League as one of his biggest personal ambitions: “I hope to achieve very big things,” he added, speaking to Liverpool’s official website.
The France international becomes the club’s fifth summer signing, following defenders Ronald Araujo and Ifeanyi Ndukwe. Winger Victor Munoz and defender Jeremy Jacquet also joined Liverpool earlier in the transfer window.
Filling A Crucial Gap In Attack
Barcola arrives at Anfield following Mohamed Salah’s departure from the club this summer. Liverpool also continue managing Hugo Ekitike’s long-term injury absence from the first-team squad. Barcola primarily operates on the left wing but can play across the front line.
Last season, he scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in 49 appearances for PSG. He also featured in all eight of France’s matches at this year’s World Cup, scoring three goals.
Elite Numbers Underline His Attacking Threat
Statistical data highlights just why Liverpool pursued Barcola so persistently this summer. His expected goals tally last season ranked in the top five percent of wingers across Europe. He converted eleven league goals, outperforming his underlying expected numbers by a clear margin.
Barcola also led Europe’s top five leagues for shot-ending dribbles per ninety minutes. His work without the ball impressed Liverpool’s recruitment staff just as much as his attacking output. He ranked ninth across the continent’s top leagues for regaining possession in the final third.
A Statement Signing For A Rebuilding Squad
Liverpool have opened this season with back-to-back draws, prompting calls for greater attacking sharpness. Barcola’s directness and shot selection should offer exactly that missing element going forward.
He joined PSG from Lyon in 2023 and won three Ligue 1 titles during his time there. His trophy haul also includes two Champions League titles and multiple domestic cup successes.
Manager Andoni Iraola will hope Barcola’s pace and creativity help unlock stubborn defences this season. Liverpool fans will get their first proper look at the new signing in the coming weeks.
