Mohammed Kudus has made it clear he wants to swap east London for north London, but Tottenham’s cheeky bid structure has left West Ham far from impressed.
The Ghana international is keen on joining Spurs (6.60). He’s told them yes. But his current club aren’t playing ball with what they see as a ridiculous offer.
Trophy Clauses That Don’t Add Up
Tottenham’s £50m bid got binned immediately by West Ham (2.24). The reason? Spurs included add-ons that only trigger if they win the Champions League or the Premier League. That’s taking the piss, according to the Hammers.
Consider this: Tottenham last won the top flight in 1960-61. They ended a 17-year trophy drought in May by beating Manchester United (12.95) in the Europa League final. But banking on them winning the Premier League or Champions League? West Ham aren’t having it.
The Hammers want at least £60m guaranteed. No ifs, buts, or maybes tied to trophies that might never come.
Frank’s Belief vs. Reality
Those ambitious add-ons show Thomas Frank’s confidence. The new Spurs boss replaced Ange Postecoglou, who delivered Europa League glory but also a shocking 17th-place Premier League finish last season.
Frank has never managed in the Champions League. But Tottenham’s Europa League win means they’re back in Europe’s top competition. The Dane believes Kudus can help them make a proper go of it.
Kudus’s Rollercoaster at West Ham
The 24-year-old arrived at the London Stadium in summer 2023 for big money. His first season was decent enough – eight goals and nine assists in 33 league games.
But year two went badly wrong. Under Julen Lopetegui and then Graham Potter, Kudus managed just five goals and four assists across all competitions. The team’s dysfunction didn’t help his cause.
Potter, who’s still in charge, admitted the system affected individual players. “Sometimes when the team isn’t functioning as well as you’d like, individuals within the team can suffer,” he said in May.
Chelsea Lurking, Saudi Interest Real
West Ham are hoping Chelsea (1.70) come in with a proper offer. The Blues have already had one player-plus-cash proposal rejected.
There’s also Saudi interest. Al Nassr want Kudus, though his Saudi-specific release clause sits at £120m. They’ve got a squad spot free after John Duran’s loan move to Fenerbahce.
But Kudus only wants Tottenham right now. Personal terms won’t be a problem if the clubs can agree on a fee.
Historic Move in the Making
If this deal happens, Kudus would become the first player to move directly from West Ham to Tottenham since Scott Parker in 2011. That’s 14 years of no business between the London rivals.
Kudus has a contract until 2028, with West Ham holding an option for another year. The Hammers aren’t under pressure to sell. They want proper money, not fantasy add-ons.
Tottenham need someone who can play across the front line. Kudus fits that bill perfectly. But they’ll have to come back with a more realistic offer if they want their man.
The player made his choice. Now it’s down to the clubs to make the numbers work.
