England’s Six Nations Heartbreak
England was not among the more fancied Northern Hemisphere nations at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. However, they went the furthest out of all of the Northern Hemisphere nations and only narrowly missed out on a spot in the final, losing 16-15 to eventual champions South Africa in the semi-finals.
England then went on to beat Argentina 26-23 in the third-place playoff to clinch the bronze medal. They had a significantly better World Cup than Australia, who were eliminated in the group stages.
Steve Borthwick led them into the 2024 Six Nations, where they were hoping to continue their strong run.
However, it was a disappointing campaign for England as they beat Italy 27-24 and Wales 16-14 before losing 30-21 to Scotland.
They bounced back with a 23-22 win over Ireland only to lose 33-31 to France in their final fixture.
England finished third, behind Ireland and France, with three wins and two defeats.
They have since beaten Japan 52-17 but lost to New Zealand in three straight tests.
2024: Bad to Worse for the Wallabies
At least England can say that they were within seven points in all three of their losses to the All Blacks.
The Wallabies, meanwhile, have had some big losses in 2024. Notably, they not only suffered a 33-13 loss to the All Blacks and a 33-7 defeat to eventual champions the Springboks but an even more embarrassing 67-27 loss to Argentina.
The form guide seems to suggest that England are the more likely winners here against a team that only won one out of six games in The Rugby Championship, finishing rock bottom.
