The Champions Cup pits Europe and South Africa’s best rugby teams against each other and there are some in particular to keep an eye on.
Defending champions Toulouse (2.71) are the favourites as per the current odds. Antoine Dupont, their star scrumhalf, led them to last season’s title and appears to only be getting better with time.
Ireland’s Leinster (3.40) are currently second-favourites with Easybet. They have recruited well with the likes of Jordie Barrett and RG Snyman joining them as top international talents.
The Bulls (13.90) from South Africa are also one of the teams to watch. They will enter this tournament as dark horses rather than favourites.
Previously the Heineken Cup, the Champions Cup has expanded since the arrival of South African teams in the tournament in the 2022-23 season. It is essentially rugby’s version of the UEFA Champions League.
Toulouse: Reigning Champions
Toulouse enter the tournament as the team to beat. They claimed the 2024 title with a thrilling extra-time win over Leinster. Led by Antoine Dupont, they are full of confidence. Dupont is arguably the world’s best rugby player and will be key to their success.
Leinster: Irish Powerhouse
Leinster are desperate to end their Champions Cup drought, last winning in 2018. With stars like Caelan Doris and new signings Jordie Barrett and RG Snyman, they have a strong squad.
Their URC form has been excellent. If they carry that into Europe, they could be unstoppable.
Bulls: South African Dark Horse
The Bulls have been consistently competitive in recent years. They have made two URC finals in three seasons and this season, they have won five out of six games at the time of writing. Canan Moodie can add the spark needed for this side to gear up a level and challenge the best teams in Europe.
They are one of several teams who could upset the established order and throw the cat amongst the pigeons in what could be one of the most exciting Champions Cup seasons to date.
