5 South African Soccer Stars Under 23 to Watch

South African soccer is entering what could be a new golden era with several emerging talents. Some of the best youngsters are playing locally, with some testing themselves abroad already.

Easybet has highlighted five talents in particular who we believe could make a huge difference to the South African soccer scene in years to come.

Relebohile Mofokeng (Orlando Pirates)

Relebohile Mofokeng has been making waves at Orlando Pirates. The winger has already shown his creativity and dribbling skills in the PSL. He is capable of unlocking defences with his quick footwork and vision.

At just 20 years old, Mofokeng has earned comparisons to some of South African soccer’s great playmakers and has been linked with a move to Barcelona. His ability to take on defenders one-on-one makes him a nightmare for opponents. If he continues on this trajectory, he could become a key player for Bafana Bafana.

Malibongwe Khoza (Mamelodi Sundowns)

Mamelodi Sundowns (1.12) have a strong record of developing young talent, and Malibongwe Khoza is one of their latest gems. The centre-back is composed on the ball and solid in tackling. He has already featured in key matches for the club at the tender age of 20 years old.

Shandre Campbell (Club Brugge)

The winger recently made his debut for the Club Brugge first team. South African soccer players have not fared particularly well in Europe in recent years, but the fact that they have a 19-year-old shining in Belgium is an extremely positive sign for the future of South African soccer.

Emile Witbooi (Cape Town City)

A 16-year-old attacking midfielder, Witbooi has impressed so much at Cape Town City that he even earned himself a trial at Chelsea. This is a player with a bright future and eyes monitoring him abroad. The world is proverbially at his feet.

Mohau Nkota (Orlando Pirates)

The 20-year-old winger from Kimberley has excelled in an Orlando Pirates shirt. He features regularly on the right wing for the Buccaneers and after coming through the ranks at the Buccaneers, he gets to feature in a front four with another player who rose with him in Mofokeng. This is a sign that as far as development goes, the Buccaneers are certainly doing something right, as they have several exciting South African soccer stars.

The Future of South African Soccer Takes Shape

These five rising stars showcase the bright future of South African soccer. From Mofokeng’s dazzling skills at Pirates to Campbell’s breakthrough in Belgium, we’re seeing a fresh wave of talent ready to make their mark both at home and abroad. With two promising youngsters at Pirates, Sundowns producing defensive talent, and teenagers catching the eye of European clubs, South African soccer looks set for an exciting new chapter.
