The FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 Championships have introduced the Aramco Pole Position Award. A new accolade specifically recognising the fastest qualifiers in each series.
The award made its debut at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola on May 15, 2025.
Recognising Qualifying Excellence
The Aramco Pole Position Award is presented to the drivers who achieve the fastest lap times during Friday’s qualifying sessions in both F2 and F3. These drivers earn the right to start from pole position in Sunday’s Feature Race. The inaugural awards were scheduled to be presented at 16:35 CET for F3 and 16:40 CET for F2 in the respective paddocks at Imola.
A Trophy Reflecting Innovation
The trophy’s design incorporates carbon fibre, symbolising Aramco’s commitment to innovation and technology in motorsport. This initiative aligns with Aramco’s broader efforts to support sustainable practices within the racing industry.
Leadership Perspectives
Bruno Michel, CEO of FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3, expressed enthusiasm about the new award, stating, “I am very pleased to introduce the Aramco Pole Position Award from this weekend onwards. Aligning with Sustainability Goals
The introduction of the Aramco Pole Position Award furthermore complements the ongoing partnership. Aramco and the FIA to pioneer low-carbon fuels in Formula 2 and Formula 3. This collaboration aims to implement sustainable fuel solutions across all FIA Championships by 2026. Contributing to the sport’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
